The Milky Way
The Milky Way is the galaxy we live in. It is a vast collection of stars, gas, dust, and dark matter. Our galaxy has a spiral shape, like a giant pinwheel spinning in space.

Black Holes
Black holes are some of the most mysterious objects in space. They have such strong gravity that nothing can escape, not even light. This is why they are called black holes.
A black hole forms when a very massive star dies and collapses. The gravity at the center is extremely strong. The boundary around it is called the event horizon. Anything that crosses this boundary is swallowed forever.
Black holes are invisible. Scientists cannot see them directly, but they can detect their effects. Stars and gas near a black hole are pulled in and heated up. This creates X-rays that telescopes can detect.
In 2019, scientists took the first photograph of a black hole. It was a great theoretical and technological achievement. Black holes remind us how much we still have to discover about space. The universe is full of wonders beyond our imagination.
Asteroids
Asteroids are rocky objects that orbit the sun. They are smaller than planets. Most asteroids are found in a belt between Mars and Jupiter. This is called the asteroid belt.

Meteors

Most meteors are tiny, smaller than a grain of sand. But they move very fast, so they glow brightly. Sometimes larger pieces survive and hit the ground. These are called meteorites.
A meteor shower happens when many meteors appear in a short time. This occurs when Earth passes through a cloud of dust left by a comet. The Perseid shower in August is a famous one.
When I was young, my grandmother told me to make a wish when I see a shooting star. It is a fun tradition. Meteors remind us that space is full of activity. On any clear night, you might see one if you look up.
Nebulae
A nebula is a huge cloud of gas and dust in space. Nebulae are often called stellar nurseries because new stars are born inside them. They are some of the most colorful objects in space.

Mars Exploration

Mercury
Mercury is the smallest planet in our solar system and the closest to the sun. Its surface is covered with craters, similar to the moon. Mercury has no atmosphere to protect it.
Because Mercury is so close to the sun, its temperatures are extreme. During the day, the surface can reach 430 degrees Celsius. At night, it drops to minus 180 degrees. The change is more extreme than any other planet.
Mercury moves very fast in its orbit. In fact, it is named after the Roman messenger god, known for speed. One year on Mercury is only 88 Earth days. But one day on Mercury lasts 59 Earth days.
It is difficult to see Mercury from Earth because it is always close to the sun. Spacecraft have visited Mercury and sent back pictures. Mercury is a harsh and barren world, but studying it helps us understand how planets form and evolve.
Venus
Venus is the second planet from the sun. It is sometimes called Earth's twin because it is similar in size. But Venus is very different from our planet. It has the hottest surface of any planet.
Venus has a thick atmosphere full of carbon dioxide. The clouds are made of sulfuric acid. This creates a greenhouse effect that traps heat. The surface temperature is about 465 degrees Celsius, hot enough to melt lead.
Another strange thing about Venus is its rotation. It spins very slowly and in the opposite direction from most planets. A day on Venus is longer than its year. The sun rises in the west and sets in the east.

Pluto
Pluto was once considered the ninth planet in our solar system. But in 2006, scientists reclassified it as a dwarf planet. Pluto is very small and very distant from the sun.
Pluto was discovered in 1930 by an American astronomer. For decades, it was the smallest and most distant known planet. But scientists found other similar objects in the outer solar system. They decided that Pluto belonged to a new category called dwarf planets.

Coral Reefs
Coral reefs are among the most biodiverse ecosystems on Earth. They are found in warm tropical waters. Corals are tiny animals called polyps. Together, they build large structures that look like underwater cities.

The Seahorse
The seahorse is one of the most unique creatures in the ocean. It has a head that looks like a horse, a curled tail, and a body covered in bony plates. Seahorses swim in an upright position.
One remarkable thing about seahorses is that the male carries the babies. The female deposits eggs into the male's pouch. The male then gives birth to tiny seahorses. This is very rare in the animal kingdom.

Sharks

Mangroves
Mangroves are special trees that grow in saltwater along tropical coasts. They have complex root systems that stick out of the water. These roots help protect the coastline from waves and storms.
Mangrove ecosystems are incredibly important. They provide habitat for many species. Fish, crabs, and birds live in mangroves. The roots create a nursery for young fish and shrimp.
Mangroves also help fight climate change. They store large amounts of carbon in their soil. This is called blue carbon. Protecting mangroves is one way to reduce greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.

Tides

Ocean Waves

Waves also have a peaceful side. Watching the rhythmic rise and fall of waves is relaxing. The sound of waves crashing on the shore is one of nature's most calming sounds. Waves connect the wind, the ocean, and the land in a beautiful cycle.
The Lighthouse
